Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor won their second consecutive gold medal in beach volleyball, playing through a steady rain Thursday to beat Wang Jie and Tian Jia of China 21-18, 21-18.

Baseball: The U.S. moved itself into better position in the medal round with a 4-2 win over Japan. The U.S. finishes pool play in third with a 5-2 record. In other games, Cuba crushed China, 17-1, Korea did likewise to the Netherlands, 10-0 and Taiwan beat Canada, 6-5. the U.S. plays Cuba on Thursday.

Wide receiver Hankerson shines in final Hurricanes scrimmage
Miami WR Leonard Hank erson had been sort of like a forgotten man throughout the preseason. Tuesday he refreshed everyone's memory. Hankerson, a sophomore, caught three touchdown passes in the Hurricanes' final scrimmage of preseason camp. Hankerson picked the perfect time to have the performance, with the season-opener against Charleston Southern just a little more than a week away.
